A week to get a taste of AWE

Four FMS students recorded in diary form their impressions of the internship week from October 21 to 25, 2024.

During this week we were able to give many presentations.

Project management, organization and tools

Dear diary

The first day at AWE was great. We received a warm welcome and the employees showed us around the company. We quickly felt at home here. The first thing we were given was an introduction to “Organization and project management”. It was very informative! Afterwards, we were allowed to take part in a video conference with an employee from Portugal. It was very impressive, as we don't experience a conference like this every day. After the lunch break, we four interns were allowed to create a Powerpoint presentation about important terms in communication and projects. The staff were very helpful and always helped us with our questions. Finally, the day came to an end and we had been able to learn a lot.

Strategy and communication concept for customers

Dear diary

On Tuesday, the second day of our internship, we dealt with two different AWE clients. These were FEDRO, the Federal Roads Office, which is renewing the Kerenzerberg tunnel in line with current standards, and the developers of Silberhof, a new housing estate to be built in Schaffhausen. Our task was to consider what needs to be done in terms of communication and how the two projects differ. We then worked in groups to find out about the two projects and then made a presentation. While researching, we learned that different measures are taken depending on the project. If you want to sell something, you use completely different strategies than if you want to inform people about a project. During this assignment, we were able to apply what we had learned the day before. I particularly enjoyed doing the research :)

We used Dropbox so that we all had access to the same documents.
Here we outline an idea for a Christmas card.

Visual communication and design

Dear diary

Today was the third day at AWE and it was all about visual communication, which was really exciting. At the beginning of the day, we were given an introduction to the topic and learned why visual communication is so important. We looked at different designs and discussed how they work. My highlight: we were allowed to get creative ourselves! Our team was given the task of designing a Christmas card for a customer ourselves. I really enjoyed being creative and implementing my own ideas. It was cool to see how my card, as well as the cards of the other interns, looked in the end. I'm already looking forward to tomorrow and what we'll learn next.

Digital communication and photography

Dear diary

Today is the fourth day of our internship at AWE, and it's going well. We've decided to do something special today, we want to take photos with a real camera for our blog. It was a different feeling than usual with a cell phone, much more professional and exciting. We made an effort to find the right positions and make the most of the light when taking photos. I'm looking forward to editing the photos and seeing how they look on the blog. The project, namely this blog post, is slowly coming together. Let's see how it continues.

We kept a daily learning diary as the basis for this article.

Our conclusion

Our internship was a great experience. During the week, we were able to learn a lot about marketing and communication and also get creative. It was particularly exciting to gain different insights into the work of a communications agency and to see how diverse this area is. It was also really cool to experience the week together as a group. We were able to support each other, exchange ideas and work on projects together. All in all, it was an instructive time that gave us lots of new impressions!

On the second day, we made a PowerPoint presentation using the template from AWE.
